HARTLAND — The Hartland High School gym was filled with wrestlers who are devoted to their craft year-round, rarely taking time away from the mat.

That’s how they have become some of the best in their sport not only in Michigan, but in other states that were represented at the prestigious Grappler Gold Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 6.

Then there’s Brighton’s Dom Nauss.

The moment he stepped off the mat at Ford Field on March 1, having placed fourth in Division 1 at 165 pounds as a freshman, Nauss’ focus quickly shifted to football.

Nauss was all-in on football for the next nine months, bulking up to 190 pounds and producing one of the greatest sophomore seasons ever by a player in Livingston County. He is on track to become the county’s all-time leading rusher after running for 1,489 yards and 18 touchdowns in 11 games.
